HDB Update - $20,000 Higher-Tier Singles Grant

From 1 Apr 2008, Singapore Citizen singles aged 35 years and above who buy a HDB resale flat and list their parents as occupiers or co-applicants may apply for a Higher-Tier CPF Housing Grant of $20,000 instead of the $11,000 Singles Grant. To qualify for the Higher-Tier Singles Grant, the single must be a first timer, a Singapore Citizen age 35 years and above, and does not own or dispose any private property in the last 30 months. The eligible single must commit to live together with his or her parents in the resale flat for at least 5 years. Within this Minimum Occupation Period (MOP) of 5 years, neither the single nor the parents are allowed to buy or take over the ownership of another HDB flat, or invest in a private property.

If 2 single siblings aged 35 years and above buy a resale flat with their parents, only 1 sibling will be eligible for the $20,000 Higher-Tier Singles Grant while the other sibling will be entitled to the $11,000 Singles Grant. If 2 unrelated singles aged 35 and above buy the resale flat with their respective parents, then both singles will be eligible for the $20,000 Higher-Tier Singles Grant. For the $20,000 Higher-Tier Singles Grant, the monthly household income must not exceed $8,000.
